VenturaWaterPure

Location: Ventura, California

Artists: Lachlan Turczan, Lily Clark, Kevin Izard

About:  Petrichor Projects and the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston collaborated with the City of Ventura to introduce a new public art commissioning model, integrating art museum professionals into the artist selection process. This innovative approach highlights the value of museum expertise in public art, enriching civic projects with dynamic cultural perspectives.

VenturaWaterPure is a groundbreaking effort in environmental stewardship. VenturaWaterPure will reclaim, treat, and reuse water currently discharged into the Santa Clara River Estuary, ensuring a sustainable, drought-resilient water supply independent of fluctuating rainfall. By addressing the region’s water challenges head-on, the initiative demonstrates Ventura's forward-thinking approach to sustainability and community well-being.

To embody the environmental and civic values of VenturaWaterPure, Studio Lachlan Turczan has been selected to create an integrated public artwork, blending art with function. Their vision will explore the poetic and scientific aspects of water transformation, incorporating visual storytelling and environmental design to represent the water recycling journey. Through their work, Turczan will celebrate the cyclical nature of water while capturing the imagination of viewers and fostering a collective appreciation of this essential resource.
